Got this card to rebuild my credit and I got approved for $200. Though the limit was small, it was better than the First Premier I have since I did not have to pay any annual fees. They key thing was for me to pay my bills in full every month so that I avoid the high interest rates.

About a year later, I applied and got approved for the Barclays rewards mastercard. Knowing what I know now, this is the card I would try first before the drive for five (since you can only use the d-4-5 at Shell).

Got this card a couple of years ago.

Pros
You save money on gas
You build or rebuild your credit without nasty fees

Cons
You can only use at Shell Stations
Need a minimum fill to earn the gas savings
Rates are high if you do not pay in full

My advice is to get this card as a means to rebuild your credit before moving on to a regular Visa or Mastercard.

I was in the credit rebuilding mode when I got this card. Prior to this, I had a secured card with a credit union. I graduated from that to a Credit One. Got my scores up to the mid 600s, and decided to get a couple of store cards and regular cards. But I got turned down for cards like Gap, and even Barclays (which is surprising given the stuff I have read on other forums.

So here is my 2 cents on this. If your scores are in the 600s, try other cards like Capital One and Barclays for example. You should be able to get those. If not, this card would be an alternative (although an inferior one because you can only use it at Shell). I suspect that scores are not the only thing that issuers look at. My past collection accounts and delinquencies are probably reasons why I got declined for other cards.

CSR of 714 - applied for the card awhile back and CL was $200 - recently upped to $400...card is fine for my use - Shell stations are close to home and I generally charge $125 or so a month and pay it off. Never an issue getting payments applied on time so far. Also have a Citi Best Buy Visa with $2000 CL - never an issue at any time. I don't necessarily need the MasterCard version of the Shell card, as I have a Discover IT card ($5500 CL) and AMEX Everyday card (CL $4000) - this is just a convenient card to use when I need it. If Citi offered the M/C, I would consider opening an account.

Give this card a 3 star rating. To me, it's just an average card which I got simply to save money on gas. The downside of this card is the high interest rates and the fact that you can only use it at Shell. If you are looking to rebuild, Capital One and Barclays would be my preferred choice.

I give this card a three star rating. After I got the card, I checked other gas cards and realized that most were giving you more than 5 cents per gallon in savings. But I fill up at Shell, so I guess some savings is better than nothing.

I got approved of this card after my second attempt. When I first applied a couple of years ago, my scores were in the 500s with a couple of baddies in my report. I was also unsuccessful in applying for a couple of other gas cards. Many of you will probably look at this as a rebuilding card. But from my experience, you will only get approved if your score is in the 600s. If your scores are in the 500s, department store cards are a better bet.

If you want to get into Citi, I think this is probably the easiest to get. My credit was not great when I got this card and I had been turned down by the Citi Simplicity a year ago. My plan is to get my scores up to above 700 and then get the mastercard version.

Shell is the gas station that I go to most of the time. Before I got this card, I was comparing this and the mastercard version. For me, this one worked out better because you need to spend certain amounts to get higher cash back with the mastercard. The drive for five requires you to fill up a certain amount (which I do and is not a problem for me) but if you are able to meet that requirement, then it is a decent card to get. You cannot use it elsewhere except Shell stations. But for me, I am getting it just to save money at the pump.

Like a couple of other folks here, I got this card after my scores were in the 600s. Got dinged on my score for some mistakes a few years ago and after rebuilding with secured and a high fee card, this is my first unsecured card. Reason I got this is because I have Shell stations around my area and also because I wanted to establish a relationship with Citi.

Let's see how long it takes me to get to the 700 mark.

After a couple of years of rebuilding with a secured and then a high fee card, I was ready for a mainstream card. Wanted to get a Citi and decided to app this card. Got approved for a small $500 limit and I will soon get rid of my First Premier and save on the fees.

Got this card solely for rebuilding purposes. Score has improved to low 700s now and have gotten a Discover. So I will be ditching this card soon.

I also have this card together with the Mastercard. To be honest, the design looks nicer. Got this to really get started with Citi as I have been turned down by them on a couple of cards a few years ago. Once my score reaches mid 700s, I will try for the thankyou cards.

After applying for this card, I got the dreaded 7-10 message. I decided to just call their line and get a recon. Spoke to a nice lady and she asked me to verify my address and phone etc. After going through a couple of more questions, I was approved for a $600 CL.

I applied and got approved for this card. CL was originally $200. Once I got the card, I called them and requested a CLI. Was bumped up to $500. Yay!

I really wanted to get my foot in the door with Citi but my credit ain't so great. So I decided upon this card. Apped and got approved for $200. Hope to get the mastercard version next.

Like others have said here, you need to fill up 45 gallons a month for you to get the 5 cents savings.

I got this card with a pre-approval email. Believe they pulled EQ and got a $300 CL. To be honest, 5 cents per gallon is not much. But there are lots of Shell stations around where I live.

You also have to fill up a certain amount each month to get those savings so be aware of that.

I finally bit the bullet and got this card because I found myself using Shell most of the time. The lukoil around my area was rather expensive. My credit was not particularly spectacular so I did not want to experience hard pulls and rejection for better cards like Amex blue cash. 5 cents is better than nothing and I do fill up about 50 gallons.

I have had this card for a couple of years and never had a single credit line increase. Once my score improves to above 700, I'll get another better card.

To be honest, I got this card to rebuild my credit. 5 cents per gallon is not really great. As the review on this site pointed out, it works out to slightly more than 1% based on where gas prices are today. But with EQ score of 595, I'll take it anyway.

Got this card to rebuild my credit. There are quite a few Shell stations around my area which is the only reason to get this card. I found out that you need to fill quite a bit of gasoline a month but luckily I do so I get the 5 cents discount.

5 cents per gallon is not a great return for a gas card. But Shell is one of the few stations I use and around my area. Upon further research, I found out that other cards are paying cents per gallon rather than a flat percentage rebate. Once my credit score improves, I might consider the MC version.

Got this card to help with my credit because I did not want to get any of those card with monthly fees. 5 cents per gallon is ok for me though I do realize there are other cards that pay 2% or 3% on gas.

I got a mail for this card and decided to try my luck. I had BKed citi 5 years ago and thought I would never get approved. But lo and behold, I did get approved. Might want to add this card to the list to "rebuild credit".
