Got this card to rebuild my credit and I got approved for $200. Though the limit was small, it was better than the First Premier I have since I did not have to pay any annual fees. They key thing was for me to pay my bills in full every month so that I avoid the high interest rates.

About a year later, I applied and got approved for the Barclays rewards mastercard. Knowing what I know now, this is the card I would try first before the drive for five (since you can only use the d-4-5 at Shell).

Got this card a couple of years ago.

Pros
You save money on gas
You build or rebuild your credit without nasty fees

Cons
You can only use at Shell Stations
Need a minimum fill to earn the gas savings
Rates are high if you do not pay in full

My advice is to get this card as a means to rebuild your credit before moving on to a regular Visa or Mastercard.

I was in the credit rebuilding mode when I got this card. Prior to this, I had a secured card with a credit union. I graduated from that to a Credit One. Got my scores up to the mid 600s, and decided to get a couple of store cards and regular cards. But I got turned down for cards like Gap, and even Barclays (which is surprising given the stuff I have read on other forums.

So here is my 2 cents on this. If your scores are in the 600s, try other cards like Capital One and Barclays for example. You should be able to get those. If not, this card would be an alternative (although an inferior one because you can only use it at Shell). I suspect that scores are not the only thing that issuers look at. My past collection accounts and delinquencies are probably reasons why I got declined for other cards.

We had been long time Shell card holders (23 years) and this summer without us asking for it they decided to transfer our account to a "Drive for 5" account. Due to a death in the family about a month before they did this I overlooked paying my bill and it went 30 days late. Distractions in life happen, but when Shell made this change they did report it to the credit reporting agencies properly as a transfer. They listed it as closing one account and opening a new account. My credit score dropped almost 80 points because now they are reporting both of the account numbers as 30 days late.

Between my wife and I, we have about 10 hours on the phone with Chase who manage the card for Shell. They keep saying they are reporting it right and Experian says they are reporting it right yet I still see two accounts and two 30 day late charges. If we ever get our score recovered so we can get into a new house (been waiting over 60 days to get this cleaned up) we'll close this card and never, ever do business with this bunch again.

I got a Citgo card but decided to get this one because there were also quite a bit of Shell stations around my area. Score was in the low 600s and was not too confidant to get the MC version. But so far, I have no complaints.
