Review of the Chase Business Rebate Card
Update - Chase is no longer this card. Instead, it has been replaced by the Chase Ink Cash. Having said that, we are keeping this review up for archiving purposes and also for those researching the history of credit cards.
Let us explore this card in greater detail.
Rebate Formula - The Chase Business Rebate Card allows the cardholder to earn 3% rebates on purchases at restaurants, office supply stores, gas stations, building supply stores, home improvement stores and hardware stores. You will earn 1 base point for each $1 of net purchases. In addition, you will earn 2 bonus points for each $1 of eligible net purchases made at retail establishments that classify their merchant locations for Visa/MasterCard as gas stations, restaurants, hardware stores, home improvement stores, and office supply stores. Maximum point accumulation on net purchases earning 2 bonus points is 4,000 points per billing cycle. There is no maximum base point accumulation on purchases earning 1 point
Fees - There is no annual fee for the Chase Business Rebate Card. You get an introductory 0% APR on purchases and balance transfers for up to 12 months. The apr is prime rate plus 2.49%. The average daily balance method is used to calculate monthly balances.
Other Card Benefits - The Chase Business Rebate Card offers the following benefits.
Chase Business Rebate Card Peer Comparison
Chase Business Rebate Versus Amex Costco Business - The Costo business credit card (issued by Amex) beats the Chase Business Rebate Card in the gasoline area (4% vs 3%), while matching it in the restaurant category. The Costco Business Card also pays 2% rebates for travel which the Chase Card does not. The Chase, meanwhile, pays 3% on building supply stores, home improvement and hardware stores. These are categories which the Costco Card does not have. Hence, overall, this shoot out is a tie because each card has certain categories that pays extra rebates which the other does not have.
Chase Business Rebate Versus Plum Card - The Plum Card® from American Express OPEN is an very interesting card for the small business owner. It offers a 1.5% flat cash back (unlimited) as long as you pay earlier (10 day grace period). It also allows the cardholder to pay only 10% of their balance and take an extra month (total of 2 months) to pay off the remaining 90%. This in effect, is a 10% downpayment for 60 days of 0% financing. Unlike the Chase Business Rebate Card, there is no preset spending limit. The card also comes with a $175 annual fee. It is really hard to compare these two cash back cards. All I would say is that the Plum Card will suit those who want an alternative form of working capital financing to their normal line of credit channels.
Chase Business Rebate Versus BOA Cash Rewards MasterCard and Visa - Bank of America's business cash back card offers 3% rebates on office supply stores, gas stations and for computer network services. The Chase Business Rebates is very similar. It also offers 3% rebates on gasoline and in a way, office supplies as well. They key difference is that while BOA offers 3% on computer network services, Chase offers 3% in dining. So in most ways, these are pretty similar cards.
Chase Business Rebate Card Ratings and Opinions
Cons - Can't think of any.
Verdict - We recommend the Chase Business Rebate Card to the small business owner who is looking for a business cash rebate credit card. One of the attractive features of this card is that you get paid 3% rebates when you make various business purchases. These include purchases at restaurants, hardware and business supply stores. There aren't many business credit cards that pay you extra points for purchases at restaurants or hardware stores for example. So if your small business has expenses in these categories, this will be a great card.
Reminder - This card has been replaced with the Chase Ink Cash, with nearly identical features.
