Details and Fees - Most prepaid credit cards charge a hefty upfront fees like one-time application fees, processing fee etc that can add up to over one hundred dollars. On top of that, while all prepaid credit cards claim not to charge any annual fee, they do charge a monthly maintenance fee that ranges from $4.00 to $9.00 per month (which adds up to quite a bit when you add them up for 12 months).
The Western Union Prepaid Mastercard is more cost effective than other prepaid cards. Firstly, when you apply, you have to pay a one-time non-refundable fee of only $9.95. This compares to over one hundred dollars for most other prepaid credit cards. Secondly, though there is a $4.95 monthly maintenance fee, this will be waived as long as you have a direct deposit from your employer every month. Hence, if all you do is to load the card from your employer's direct deposit, this card is very cost effective.
