Chase Travel Plus Visa Review

This offer has ended. Chase is no longer offering this card. They latest reward card is the Chase Sapphire(SM) Card. The information here reflects those of the last review date.

chase travel plus platinum visa Summary - The Chase TravelPlus Visa Card will appeal to those who are looking for a travel reward credit card because you can earn 2 points for every dollar you spend on travel. Find out more about this card.

Reward Formula - The Chase TravelPlus Visa® Card allows you to earn two points for every dollar that you spend on travel items and one point for every dollar you spend on regular purchases. Points can be redeemed for travel items (airline tickets, hotels or car rentals).

Travel Plus Rewards - The Travel Plus Rewards is based on Chase's choosemyrewards.com reward program. I personally have the Chase Flexible Rewards, which is based off the same program.

Travel Plus Rewards - Chase's travel rewards program has evolved over the years and now resembles most other reward programs. There are a few ways you can redeem airline tickets. The most common one would be to use points for the value of tickets (which works out to 100 points for $1). You need to redeem a minimum of 15,000 points (which means your ticket must cost at least $150). If not, it simply does not make sense to use your points. Chase also offers the chance to redeem 25,000 points for an economy roundtrip domestic ticket (up to $350 in ticket value).

One unique feature of Chase is that you can also exchange your points for Continental OnePass, Uniteds' Mileage Plus and British Airways Miles.

Merchandise and Gift Card Rewards - While the travel rewards are OK, the other rewards in Chase catalog is not up to scratch with better programs like the Membership Rewards program from American Express. One of the things I did not like about it was that you need 1,500 points to redeem a $10 gift card. For Membership Rewards, you only need 1,000 points to redeem a $10 gift card. The number of partners and variety of merchandise is also not as much as better programs.

Fees and Rates - There is no annual fee. The apr is either prime rate plus 5.99% or 9.99%. New cardholders get 0% APR for both purchases and balance transfers for 12 months. The average daily balance method (including new purchases) is used to calculate your monthly balance.

Verdict - The Chase TravelPlus Visa Card strong point is that you can earn 2 points for every $1 that you spend. Unfortunately, the Chase is no longer offering this card. If you are looking specifically for a travel reward card, I suggest you check out other cards at our travel rewards credit cards section. If you are looking for an all round reward card, Chase also offers the Sapphire and Sapphire Preferred.
