From just the basic charge cards, American Express have diversified their credit card portfolio and offers consumers a whole range of reward credit cards. Aside from the membership rewards charge card, they have introduced the Blue series, INSIDE Rewards Citi Cards. American Express also issues affinity cards for Delta Airlines, JetBlue, Starwood Preferred Guest and Hilton HHonors. Below is a brief run down on the consumer cards.
Charge Cards - Membership Rewards
American Express original card and claim to fame is with the Green and Gold charge cards. Both are based on the membership rewards program and will appeal to the frequent traveller who is a member of a few frequent flyer or frequent guest programs.
BLUE Series
The Blue series has three card - the Blue, Blue Cash and Blue Sky. They are actually three different cards. The Blue is a no annual credit card version of the green and gold charge card, whose reward program is based on the membership rewards option program. Blue Cash is a cash rebate card. Blue Sky is a unique travel rewards credit card that allows you to find the best deals and then claim your rewards.
INSIDE REWARDS - City Cards
American Express first introduced in IN:NYC card to target a younger market in the City of New York. The INSIDE Rewards program allows the cardholder to earn points and redeem them for dining, drinks and theater vouchers. The success of the card led to two more cards for LA and Chicago residents.
Frequent Flyer Credit Cards
American Express issues two Delta frequent flyer cards. The Skypoints differ from the skymiles credit card in that you can either use skypoints to get discounts on Delta flights or convert skypoints into skymiles. The JetBlue card is one of the better airline cards out there.
Hotel Credit Cards
The Starwood Preferred Guest credit card is one of the most popular travel rewards credit card. Savvy travellers have been using it to earn extra miles. The Hilton HHonors Platinum Credit Card is one of two Hilton HHonors credit card (the other being Citibanks' Hilton HHonors Visa). The American Express version actually allows you to earn more points and is the better version.
Savings Credit Card
