Question from reader : I spend money at amazon.com com every month on both books and DVDs. I actually spend a few hundred dollars a month. I'm not sure if it makes sense to get the amazon.com credit card which they offer on their site even I though I spend money there every month. Part of my reluctance is that I want a credit card where I can use points not just at amazon.com. Do you have any suggestions for any credit card where I can still earn rewards to use at amazon?
Well, there are a couple of reward programs that have amazon.com as their partners. They are the ThankYou Network from Citicards and the Worldpoints program from Bank of America. I have summarized them below in the table.
| ThankYou |
WorldPoints |
| $25 Gift Card |
$50 gift Card |
| $50 Gift Card |
$100 Gift Card |
The ThankYou Network from Citi allows you to exchange reward points for Amazon.com gift cards in $25 or $50 denominations. They are also have Barnes & Nobles as their partner if they ever buy anything from them. The card to get is the Citi® Diamond Preferred® Rewards Card. This card allows you to earn point reward point for every dollar that you spend on the card. As a teaser, you can earn 5 points for every dollar you spend on gasoline, supermarkets and drugstore for the first 12 months (not bad considering that gas and food prices are shooting through the roof). You also earn 6,000 bonus points after you make $100 purchases in the first 3 months (good for a $50 gift card).
The main difference between WorldPoints and ThankYou program is that the WorldPoints program allows you to redeem points for Amazon gift cards is $50 and $100 increments. But WorldPoints also have Barnes & Noble and Borders on their gift card list. The following Bank of America credit cards have WorldPoints as their reward program - Bank of America Visa Signature® WorldPoints™ Rewards, the Bank of America World MasterCard® with WorldPoints™ and the Bank of America WorldPoints™ Platinum Plus® MasterCard® Credit Card.
